The meaning behind Mauri
“Mauri is the life force, the vital essence that flows through all living things.”
Inspired by the Māori concept of mauri, Mauri Osteopathy reflects a holistic philosophy of care that considers each person as a whole, rather than focusing solely on symptoms. This approach recognises the interconnected physical, mental, emotional and energetic dimensions of wellbeing, placing thoughtful attention, personalised care and respect for each individual's unique needs at its heart.

Meet Mathilde Hervieux – Osteopath D.O.
Mathilde Hervieux is a French-trained osteopath who graduated in 2009. After gaining early clinical experience in France and Switzerland, she established her first practice in the French territory of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon in 2010, where she built a strong and loyal patient base.
With over 15 years of clinical experience, Mathilde has since practised internationally, including in Montréal and Vancouver, Canada, working in both multidisciplinary clinics and private practice. This diverse professional background has shaped her holistic and adaptable approach to osteopathic care, grounded in an understanding of each patient's unique circumstances.
Mathilde has extensive experience in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions, including postural and biomechanical issues, sports injuries, and acute and chronic pain. She also has a particular interest in adolescent care, particularly musculoskeletal concerns associated with growth and development.
Her approach draws on a broad range of osteopathic techniques, with a particular emphasis on restoring mobility, promoting functional balance and supporting the body's natural ability to adapt. Guided by the osteopathic principle that structure and function are closely interconnected, she considers the body as a whole rather than focusing solely on isolated areas of discomfort.
Depending on clinical findings and individual needs, her treatments may incorporate General Osteopathic Treatment (GOT), joint mobilisation and manipulation (HVLA), soft tissue and myofascial techniques, deep tissue massage, cupping therapy, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation, as well as gentle cranial, visceral and diaphragmatic techniques.
Mathilde welcomes patients across a wide range of ages and lifestyles, from children (from 4 years old) and adolescents to adults and seniors. Whether working with athletes, active individuals or those seeking to improve their mobility and everyday comfort, she adapts her care to each person's condition and goals.
At the heart of her practice is a patient-centred philosophy that values attentive listening, thoughtful treatment and a collaborative approach to musculoskeletal health and long-term wellbeing.
A Different Approach to Osteopathic Care – The Value of Time
One of the defining features of Mathilde's practice is her commitment to extended consultations, including 90-minute appointments for adults. This additional time allows for a thorough clinical assessment, comprehensive hands-on treatment and individualised guidance tailored to each patient's needs.
For Mathilde, effective osteopathic care is a team effort between practitioner and patient. While she provides the assessment, treatment and professional guidance, patients are encouraged to take an active role in their own recovery.
Patient education is therefore central to her approach. By helping individuals better understand their condition, the factors contributing to their symptoms and how to manage them, she aims to give them the knowledge and confidence to make positive changes beyond the treatment room.
Mathilde works closely with each patient to develop personalised home-care strategies, which may include targeted exercises, stretching, mobility and strengthening work, as well as simple, practical adjustments to posture, ergonomics and everyday habits. These recommendations are adapted to each person's lifestyle, activities and individual needs, recognising that even small changes can make a meaningful difference over time.
Through this combination of hands-on osteopathic care, patient education and shared responsibility, Mathilde aims to support recovery, improve mobility and function, and empower patients to take an active role in their overall health and wellbeing. Her holistic philosophy embraces a whole-person approach, considering the physical, mental, emotional and energetic dimensions of wellbeing, while recognising the importance of lifestyle, social connections and their influence on overall balance and quality of life.
